This Listening Skillshop® provides a deeper insight into understanding what listening is, how it works and how parents play a major role in defining and developing it as a skill in their children. The Skillshop® creates an opportunity for parents to analyse the listening process in themselves as well as enabling them to assess where their children are in the development of this skill. We present simple, tried and tested exercises, strategies and techniques to empower parents in further development of this skill in their children. Groups no larger than 8 participants allow for interaction and questions. We can bring the Skillshop® to a suitable venue near you on request. Special Skillshop® introductory offer: £50 only UPCOMING SKILLSHOPS

Skills Alive is about motivating children from within. We do this by igniting their natural skills and ability. The evidence of our own experience makes it clear that every child delights in learning a new skill and being recognised for it. The urges to walk and talk come naturally. Walking and talking are skills that parents can easily see, encourage and monitor. It is often not so obvious with skills such as LISTENING, CONCENTRATION and ORGANISATION because we cannot actually see the processes involved – and nor can the children see them happening in us. For example: we often complain about children’s listening skills without making sure they know what we are talking about and you can’t do what you don’t know. Your child will find it difficult to improve their skills if they don’t realise that what they are doing is a skill and so you can become better at. As adults we know that to master a skill, we need to know what it is; understand what we are trying to achieve and experience what it feels like to do it right – children need exactly the same. This does not need to be time consuming! It’s about [...]

The 21st century is probably the most exciting time to be born in all human history but with so much going on, it is easy to see why many children get distracted and sometimes confused. Trying to work it all out, find out who you are, grow up fast, get involved and at the same time ‘learn your maths and English’ is a pretty tall order! LessonsAlive, founded by Gail Hugman (Cert.Ed.T.Dip.M), is the modern way to give children the support they need for school. When they are focused, independent and enthusiastic about learning children perform better and get more out of their education. By understanding what is needed and why, they are given the impetus and desire to do well in all they do and they begin to take more responsibility for themselves and their actions. By far the most potent qualification Gail has is her thirty years experience devoted to the teaching, inspiration and motivation of many thousands of young lives, from all walks of life and all abilities. Her roles have included class teacher, teacher of the physically impaired, special needs teacher, home tutor, middle manager and senior manager; working with all ages from infant through primary [...]
